RTSC Spring Programs Update - April 23, 2020

RTSC Families,

With Gov. Wolf’s stay-at-home order extended to May 8th,  and recent federal and state guidelines outlining a prolonged path back to normal life, we believe it is prudent at this time to cancel our Spring programs.  This includes Spring Intramurals, Spring Tots, Spring Adult, Adult Super Cup.  If you are registered for these programs we have begun processing refunds this week.  Please allow 7 – 10 business days from the date of this email for your refund to be posted to the debit or credit card that was used at checkout.  If you paid by check, you will receive a refund check mailed to your address on record.

Spring 2020 Travel Team activity remains suspended at this time as we await further guidance from state and federal authorities.  The various leagues and tournaments our teams compete in are in a holding pattern regarding a possible return to play late May – June.  Each of our travel teams will need coaches and parents to work together to assess if a return to play is possible based on summer schedules for all families involved.  This has been communicated clearly to all Travel coaches.

Travel 2020/21 registration remains open at this time.  Our Travel Team evaluation period was scheduled for early May.  These dates have been postponed until further notice.  We are exploring several alternative options regarding 2020/21 travel evaluations.  However, these decisions will be based on guidance we receive regarding a return to the playing fields and the timeline available to us as we approach the start of the fall soccer season.

RTSC Summer Camp registration is open.  Our 31st annual summer camp is scheduled to begin August 3rd.  We are offering 3 weeks of camp in 2020.  Details can be found on our website here: RTSC 2020 Summer Camp

Finally, I thank you for your patience and understanding as we wade through these challenging waters together as a community.  I wish you and your extended families health and safety in the weeks ahead.  From all of us at RTSC, we hope to see you on the fields in the very near future!

Sincerely,

Benjamin Chambers, CFP®

President, Rose Tree SC

General Overview of the Travel Program

Evaluations for our Travel Season are held in the spring. Players are notified of team status by the middle of May.  Depending on the team - practices start at the end of June/beginning of July.  Most teams practice twice a week in the evening during the summer and cut back to once a week when school starts.  Some teams will participate in tournaments in August to warm-up for the season.

The league games start the Saturday after Labor Day and run through the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  Girls' teams play on Sunday - it is not uncommon to have games on either day, though; and some times both days on some weekends.

All teams will participate in a tournament over Columbus Day Weekend.

Some teams continue and play indoors in the winter and will participate in leagues tournaments in the spring - this is up to each team.

Travel Team Costs

In addition to the registration fee, additional costs to play travel soccer include uniform costs and fees to cover activities such as tournaments and travel expenses during the year.  The total cost will vary from team to team depending on the level of activity the Coach and the Team (including Parents) establish for the year. (It is the policy of RTSC that no player is denied the opportunity to participate in the sport of soccer for financial reasons. Please contact the club when registering if you have a financial hardship.)

  • Players are expected to attend both evaluation sessions.  Participation in only one session may hinder the ability to accurately assess skill level and impact the placement of a player.  Any player unable to attend evaluations due to extenuating circumstances must still register and contact Jen Coyle (girls) at [email protected] or Jon Consadene (boys) at [email protected] prior to the evaluation dates to make alternative arrangements.
  • RTSC will make every effort to field as many teams as we have competitive players and coaches; however we may not be able to place everyone on a team. Players will be notified of their status prior to Memorial Day Weekend.
  • Players need to wear shin guards and bring a soccer ball and water bottle to evaluations.  Players are requested not to wear travel team uniforms or bring player team bags to the Travel Evaluations.

Concussion Training - Required of all Travel Team Coaches Every Year

Get prepared for the new season in less than 30 minutes

Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports is a free, online course available to coaches, parents, and others helping to keep athletes safe from concussion. It features interviews with leading experts, dynamic graphics and interactive exercises, and compelling storytelling to help you recognize a concussion and know how to respond if you think that your athlete might have a concussion.

Once you complete the training and quiz, you can print out a certificate, making it easy to show your league or school you are ready for the season.

What Will I Learn in this Training?

This course will help you:

•Understand a concussion and the potential consequences of this injury,

•Recognize concussion signs and symptoms and how to respond,

•Learn about steps for returning to activity (play and school) after a concussion, and

•Focus on prevention and preparedness to help keep athletes safe season-to-season.
